Dear Prospective Student,
Imagine waking to the sounds of the ocean lapping against the shore, the screech of sea gulls, the tangy smell of salt in the air. Imagine the sun setting over the water and the first stars coming out at night. Imagine yourself in this setting, being part of a unique writers' community where you can learn your craft at the same time you form life-time relationships with other writers.
Imagine your dream of being a writer becoming a reality the moment you set foot on Enders Island.
The Fairfield MFA in Creative Writing offers concentrations in poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, and our newest concentration, screenwriting, as well as the option of dual concentrations. While highly rigorous, the program can be tailored to suit a student's individual writing goals, in part by allowing one to work in a second genre for one semester.
Our core writing faculty is made up of outstanding writers and teachers, all of whom are not only well-published but also skilled and caring teachers. Most have published books in more than one genre so a student can work with the same instructor in a second writing area. Our guest writers have included nationally recognized authors such as Anita Shreve, Mark Doty, Rick Moody, and Philip Schultz. We also offer students the exciting option of taking one of their residences on the beautiful Italian island of Ortegia, off the eastern coast of Sicily.
Fairfield's MFA offers all of this and much more. Come join us for our winter residency, December 27, 2009-January 6, 2010. Your "writer within" is sure to be inspired - by the people, the program, the place, and your own distinct sense of purpose.
If you have a question about our program, feel free to contact me by phone, (203) 254-4000, ext. 3153, or e-mail.
