Interactive Talk on Conflict Resolution and Social Justice
Thursday, March 17, 2011
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Library 107C
Open to Students, Faculty and Staff--Registration required Conflicts are an inevitable part of campus life and are often structurally determined by the dynamics that exist in society which reproduce inequalities. This presents challenges as those responsible for handling conflicts face multiple demands: to intervene from a neutral position, rectify the inequality inherent in the conflict by altering existing power arrangements, create stability and (re)build community. Presenters will discuss some of the foundational concepts of the field of conflict resolution which reinforce these dilemmas and will introduce several ways in which a lens of social justice and community can positively impact conflict transformation. Co-sponsored by the Conflict Resolution Consortium, Marsha Alibrandi and Kamala Kiem, Co-Directors and the Center for Academic Excellence
