Assign Writing in Any Course to Promote Rhetoric and Reflection

Thursday, February 17, 2011
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Library 107c

Join us for lunch! Research shows students don’t learn to write in a semester or two. They need reinforcement in different conventions and learning experiences. Many faculty assign student writing a) to promote thinking and learning, or b) to demonstrate proficiency at other important skills, in disciplines not necessarily associated with writing. Panelists will share examples from the social sciences (Judy Primavera, Psychology), natural sciences (Shelley Phelan, Biology), arts / humanities (Liz Hohl, History), and professional schools (Paula Gill Lopez, Psychological & Educational Consultation, GSEAP), and we’ll discuss best practices with Cindy Gannett (English/Director of Core Writing).
