Incorporating Global Citizenship and Humanitarianism Into Curricula and Research
Monday, October 19, 2009
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Library, MultiMedia Room
Please join us for one of two workshops offered on the value and applications of global citizenship at Fairfield. To begin thinking about how we might help students to become truly global citizens with a sophisticated understanding of their roles and responsibilities, both locally and globally, we need to come together as a community to establish a better understanding of what this term means and how we can contribute to the initiative from our own disciplines. These workshops will provide the space for these conversations to begin and evolve. These workshops will be facilitated by noted scholar Hans Schattle (D.Phil., Oxford), Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. He is the author of The Practices of Global Citizenship (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008). Saturday’s workshop will be pitched towards participants who have already begun this conversation, and who are already doing work in this area. Monday’s workshop will be pitched towards anyone who would like to know more about this initiative and how they might enter into ongoing conversations. Sponsors and organizers of these workshops include: The Humanities Institute, JUHAN, the Center for Academic Excellence, the Associate Vice President for Global Relationships and Community Engagement, the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Academic Coordinator for Diversity and Global Citizenship, Center for Faith and Public Life and the Office of Institutional Diversity Initiatives. Please join us as we begin to sort out what Global Citizenship means on our campus, and how it will help us and our students to make important and interesting integrative connections among all of our research and teaching work.
