Thursday, October 4, 2007
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Library MultiMedia room
Interested in discovering or sharing an alternative and complementary approach to improving and assessing student learning? Wondering how reflection, collaboration, and evidence promote higher-level learning? Come find out about the benefits and challenges of learning portfolios, the value of reflective practice in enhancing learning, and the diverse applications of student portfolios. Using interactive strategies such as small-group conversations, writing activities, reflective exercises, and open discussion, we will explore the various educational theories that validate the value of reflection in learning, the components of successful learning portfolio development, the different forms that portfolios make take, the hurdles involved in creating portfolios, and a collection of notable models. Bring your experiences and your varied models for lively conversation, for sharing of ideas and resources on learning portfolios, and for writing a plan for implementation of a learning portfolio in a selected course or for an academic program.
