Tech Byte: Getting Acquainted with eTexts  Register!
Thursday, April 18, 2013
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Library 107c

Today's students are far more accustomed to encountering the written word on screen than on paper, yet most courses remain wedded to printed text books that are expensive to buy & heavy to carry, and lack any interactive or collaborative capabilities. This workshop will provide an introduction to digital textbooks and other publications, demonstrating how they offer a level of convenience and style of collaboration that today's digital learners expect in their lives. There will be a particular emphasis on the kind of multi-device access that undergraduates who own laptops, smart phones, Kindles, etc., are used to, as well as an overview of tools you can use to begin to create and distribute your own eTexts, customized to the specific requirements of your courses. All attendees should bring their own laptop (preferred) or iPad to the session. Session facilitated by Jay Rozgonyi, Assistant Director of Academic Support, Computing & Network Services.

FDEC Day - Expanding Conversations about Mentoring: Developing a Mentoring Network  Register!
Thursday, May 2, 2013
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Kelly Presentation Room

What does mentoring look like in a community that cares for self and others? Please join us for our Annual FDEC Faculty Development Day on May 2, at 12:30. During our time together, we’ll engage in conversations and activities that both expand our definitions of mentoring and help participants to identify and broaden their mentoring network. We’ll examine various mentoring configurations across the schools as colleagues share their mentoring stories. Finally we’ll highlight mentoring resources across campus.
