The Women's Rugby Club at Fairfield University was founded as a sport club in 1994. Over the years, the women have established a solid program, competing against regional teams in the New England area. Those teams have included Hofstra, Bard, Marist, and Sacred Heart.

During the 2008 fall season, the women ruggers qualified for their first-ever post season competition. As a proud member of USA Rugby, the Fairfield club traveled to play Sacred Heart University in late October. Putting forth a brilliant effort, the ruggers lost in an overtime session to the Sacred Heart club. To date, it was the most exciting match in the history of women's rugby at Fairfield.

The club remained busy during the spring campaign, again representing Fairfield University at the prestigious Beast of The East Tournament in Providence, Rhode Island. The weekend event provided another great opportunity for the ruggers to display their skills against some of the best programs in New England. With a large contingent of underclass members, the Red Ruggers fell short in both matches, losing a close contest to Roger Williams 8-6 and falling to Fordham 12-0.

The 2009-2010 season is right around the corner and all involved members are looking forward to continue another great tradition at Fairfield.
