Club Sports Philosophy and Procedures

Sport Clubs are administered by the Department of Recreation. The program strives to provide leadership and competitive athletic opportunities for students. These programs provide an excellent avenue for students to enhance their knowledge and skills in a specific sport through social, cognitive, and physical experiences.

Currently, Fairfield University sponsors 18 Sport Clubs, with a registration of over 500 students.

Unlike varsity teams, club teams are just that - clubs. Therefore, each team is primarily organized and managed by students. Since Sport Clubs have more specific needs than most other student organizations, the Associate Director of Recreation serves as the Sport Club Administrator. This ensures operational guidance and assistance for the officers and club membership. The Director of Recreation oversees the entire Department of Recreation operations and management.

All Sport Clubs are required to pay semester or yearly dues. These membership funds support the club's expenses which often exceed the annual monetary allocation from the University's Sport Club budget. Overall, the Sport Clubs program is partially funded through student fees, dues assessed based on activity level and alumni donations.

Team commitments, while competing regionally or nationally, are less demanding than varsity sports' competition. Practices are often only held once or twice each week. Club game schedules have fewer competitions than a Department of Athletics varsity team.

All sport clubs must adhere to the Fairfield University Student Handbook/Code of Conduct, as well as the guidelines set forth by the Department of Recreation Handbook. Fairfield University is proud to offer the Sport Clubs listed below.
