CT Writing Project

The goal of The Connecticut Writing Project at Fairfield University is to improve student writing by strengthening the teaching and learning of writing, providing professional development programs for classroom teachers, and expanding professional roles of teachers.

CWP-Fairfield, an affiliate of the National Writing Project, has worked with more than 350 teachers, kindergarten through college, to improve student literacy.

In the summer, CWP-Fairfield will offer a rich assortment of programs for teachers, including Institutes on teaching writing, teaching literature, and using technology in literacy classrooms. Teachers also have the option to attend a one-week Institute where the focus is on generating their own pieces to share and/or publish. Teachers in the Institutes are eligible for C.E.U.'s or graduate credit from Fairfield University.

CWP-Fairfield also provides two-week Young Writers Institutes for youngsters from 6th to 12th grades who come from many Fairfield County school districts to write together, enjoy workshops on various genres, and work with published writers and illustrators to improve the craft of writing.

CWP-Fairfield was designated a Center for Excellence by the Connecticut State Legislature in 1985 and shares with other Writing Project sites the Carnegie Corporation of New York's evaluation as the "best large-scale effort to improve composition instruction now in operation in this country."
