Stefon Harris

Stefon Harris and Blackout

Friday, February 15 at 8 p.m.
$45, 35, 25

Heralded by The Los Angeles Times as "one of the most important young artists in jazz," vibraphonist-composer Stefon Harris is widely recognized for his passionate artistry, energetic stage presence, and astonishing virtuosity. Harris will perform with his ensemble, Blackout, which gathers together "a troupe of music mercenaries adept in the language of jazz, the strut of soul music, and the raucous ruckus of breakbeats, go-go, and new-jack rhythms." (NPR)

The group is the combined result of an urban tradition in American music that stretches back to historical precedents in jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, and popular music since the 1970s. The program will feature works from the band's second recording, Grammy-nominated Urbanus, which The Washington Post described as "an imaginatively orchestrated and vigorously propelled collection of tunes."
