The Archaic Period in Greek Art (700-480 BC) marked a transition period between the geometric period and the classical period. The patterns and abstract forms of the geometric period were abadoned and a more individulaized style was adapted. Art consisted of metalwork, sculptures, ivories, and, textiles. Increasing wealth and a rise in civic pride influenced the commissioning of bigger temples, dedications, and graves. Increased interest in anatomy led to a mastery of the human form that followed in the high classical period. Subject matter was expanded during this period. Direct representation of historical events were rare, but myths were often used in their place.
