Fairfield Alumni Network
Networking is one of the most crucial tools in identifying a career and finding a job. It even helps when you're relocating. And there's no better way to network than through the Fairfield Alumni Network (FAN)!
Fairfield University's FAN, consisting of about 1,500 alumni in a wide range of professions all across the country, is there to help you ... the Fairfield senior and graduate student. We encourage you to contact alumni volunteers in this network in order to:
Ask questions about a career that interests you.
-
Find out how alumni got started in the field you want to enter.
-
Get the inside story about a particular company.
-
Find out what a job's day-to-day is like.
-
Talk to someone who lives in a city you want to move to.
Networking comes easily to some people, but it's hard for others. Know that FAN volunteers are waiting to network with you. They may be busy, but they want to help you. Start with an email, then maybe talk by phone or visit in person. But remember these guidelines:
Tell the alum that you're a Fairfield student and that you're contacting them through FAN.
-
Explain how you hope they can help you (for example, provide insight into what their job entails).
-
When you talk to them or visit with them, be mindful of their time ... they are busy, but also recognize that you shouldn't contact them again unless they offer that, so get the most out of this initial networking.
-
Never ask for a job ... only for advice, information and/or contacts.
-
Send an emailed thank you to anyone you talk to or meet with.
-
Do contact any names they give you, and report back to the FAN members who gave them to you.
Career networking has never been easier than with FAN!
