Networking: New alumni chapters in Chicago and Philadelphia

A cross-country Fairfield network is building with the kick-off of two new Fairfield alumni chapters in Chicago and Philadelphia.

More than 114 alumni attended the recent alumni receptions, where hosts Sean Klock '04 in Chicago and Dorothy (Dot) Stassun Costello '76 in Philadelphia urged fellow alumni to "step up" as leaders, and to act as ambassadors for Fairfield. "The most committed incoming students go to Fairfield because someone they know has told them about their Fairfield experience. That person could - and should - be you and me," Klock said.Image: Chicago alumni

Jim Callahan '82, who attended the Chicago event (pictured (right) with Andrew Belavic '82), took the call-to-action to heart. We might be one of the smallest chapters, but we are going to put Chicago on the Fairfield Alumni map," Jim commented. "We're going to work hard to get Fairfield the name recognition it deserves in our area as well."

The regional chapters provide a critical link between alumni and Fairfield University while providing opportunities for alumni to maintain an active role in the life of the institution. "The time is right to reestablish a Philadelphia Chapter," Dot Costello noted (pictured below with Justin Wright '00 and Christopher Steger '92). "The attendance and excitement at the reception shows that there is great interest Image: Philadelphia alumniin reconnecting and alumni programming ... we need to seize this opportunity."

University President Jeffrey von Arx, S.J., was on hand at both events to encourage alumni to stay connected with each other and get involved. "You are one of 40,000 Fairfield alumni who have so much to offer - individually and collectively, professionally and personally - to each other, to your alma mater, and to your community..." he said. "Tap into that strength."
