Dr. John E. Thiel
Dr. John E. Thiel has served as Director of the University Honors Program since 1997. He is Professor of Religious Studies and has taught at Fairfield for thirty-seven years. He is the author of 6 books, including Icons of Hope: The "Last Things" in Catholic Imagination (University of Notre Dame Press, 2013), God, Evil, and Innocent Suffering: A Theological Reflection (Crossroad, 2002), and Senses of Tradition: Continuity and Development in Catholic Faith (Oxford University Press, 2000). His articles have appeared in Theological Studies, Modern Theology, The Heythrop Journal, New Theology Review, Horizons, Philosophy and Theology, and The Month. Twice a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Dr. Thiel is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Academy of Religion, the Catholic Theological Society of America, and the American Theological Society. He served as President of the Catholic Theological Society of America in 2011-12.
