Helen Nayden Burland '80

Following graduation from Fairfield University with a degree in psychology, Helen worked in higher education administration at both the University of Bridgeport and Fairfield University. In the 1990s, while Helen's main focus was raising her family, two boys and three girls, she was a founding partner of International Education Specialist and served as the lead consultant for the NCAA Clearinghouse for international student athletes. Helen was elected to two 4-year terms to the Madison CT Board of Education where she served as Vice Chairman, chair of the Planning Committee and chair of the Daniel Hand High School Building Committee. She recently held the position of Assistant for Town Administration for the town of Madison. Helen is currently the President of Saint Catherine Academy, a private, state-approved school of the Diocese of Bridgeport serving students with special needs. Helen is also the Chairman of the Board of Finance for the Town of Madison. She and her husband Tom have been married for more than 25 years and share a commitment to serving their community.
