Modern Languages & Literatures

Language is at the center of the liberal arts education offered at Fairfield University. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures (MLL) offers courses in the prominent modern languages of the world, including: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

The Department offers both majors and minors in French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Our scholarly faculty leads you through a program that strongly emphasizes language skills to effectively prepare you for future careers or graduate studies. Internship opportunities and our study abroad program are strongly recommended for you to receive the crucial, real-world experience to succeed in your personal, professional and academic lives.

Our curriculum furthers an understanding and respect for the practices and viewpoints of societies across the globe. As a MLL major, you will expand your proficiency in a foreign language and prepare yourself for a life and career in a progressively global world. As an area that complements an array of professions, graduates commonly find employment in the fields of international business, marketing, anthropology, new media and communication.
