Dr. Robert A. Femia '81

Bob Femia is currently Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research and Development at Glatt Air Techniques in Ramsey, New Jersey where he is working on establishing a generic drug products development and manufacturing division within that firm. Prior to his joining Glatt Air Techniques, Bob was Executive Vice President of Scientific and Regulatory affairs at Par Pharmaceutical in Spring Valley, New York. During his 11 year tenure at Par, Bob oversaw the overhaul of all elements of the development process at Par, and worked closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to improve Par's regulatory compliance standing with FDA. Under his administration, the company developed and launched products that drove share value from under $10 per share to $74 per share in a five year period, including the development and launch of the company's first branded pharmaceutical drug product.

Prior to Par, Bob held positions of increasing responsibility in different pharmaceutical firms such as Sandoz in East Hanover, New Jersey and Hoechst-Celanese in Somerville, New Jersey, as well as working for Kratos Analytical (a division of the former Applied Biosystems) in Mahwah, New Jersey as an HPLC instrumentation senior scientist. Bob graduated from Fairfield University in 1981 with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Immediately following undergraduate work, Bob entered Seton Hall University for graduate work in Chemistry and received his doctorate degree in 1985 in Analytical/Physical Chemistry. Bob has also served as an adjunct Chemistry faculty member at William Paterson University, teaching chemistry to nursing majors, and has been an active member of numerous professional organizations such as the:

  • American Chemical Society
  • The Society for Applied Spectroscopy
  • North Jersey Chromatography Topical Group.

Membership in the Governing Board of the Eastern Analytical Symposium culminated in Bob acting as Chairman of that organization in 1997, with that year's annual meeting and symposium attracting over 5,000 technical professionals, 600 speakers, and 250 vendor exhibits. Other professional activities include several publications, numerous presentations, and eight patents issued.

Bob currently resides with his wife of 27 years, Tricia Femia (formerly Tricia Vocino, class of 1982) in Kinnelon, New Jersey and Mantoloking, New Jersey. They have three children, Robert Jr., Page, and Paul. His hobbies include boating, fishing, classical music, and cooking.
