The Dolan School of Business aspires to be an innovative leader in Jesuit business education, enriched by a liberal arts core that engages students in a vibrant and caring learning community. We seek to cultivate ethical business leaders to ensure a successful global future. As part of this education, we view experiential learning as an essential component of every student’s education and encourage all students to do at least one internship while at Fairfield University. A survey of the class of 2014 revealed that 96% of our business students achieved this goal, with the average being 1.73 internships per student.
Our goal in working with internship sponsors is to create a mutually beneficial environment where students expand on classroom knowledge and gain real-word experience, while companies get a fresh perspective from motivated and industrious future leaders.
Students in the Dolan School of Business may opt to do paid or unpaid internships for academic credit. When doing an internship for academic credit we ask employers to:
- Have interns work approximately 12 hours a week per the job description (a minimum of 144 hours per semester)
- Ensure that work assignments are sufficiently challenging to broaden and extend the intern’s understanding of the subject area. Students will be asked to submit a 6-8 page paper to the director of internships at the end of the semester that relates course concepts to the work done and observed in their internship
- Designate a specific individual within the organization to supervise the intern and assign work to the intern
- Complete an online evaluation at the end of the semester
Fairfield University uses Stags4Hire, an online recruiting tool, to post internships as well as full-time opportunities. Stags4Hire is a completely free way to post available positions to all Fairfield University students and will provide you with 24/7 access to job posting and candidate applications. If needed, you may also schedule interviews in our on-campus facilities.
To discuss how business students can meet your organization’s needs, schedule a visit to campus, or find out more about posting available positions, please contact Sarah Bollinger, Director of Internships & Professional Development for the Dolan School of Business.
