Current Research Interests

Dr. Goldberg’s research and publications build on her teaching experiences.  Consistent with a community of learners model, and the Jesuit ideal of service to others, she engages in scholarship activities, often collaboratively in order to provide multiple perspectives, contributing to current literature in three primary areas: classroom interaction, learning and development, and social responsibility. More specifically, Dr. Goldberg’s writing 1) analyzes students’ understandings of science using multiple research methods, 2) examines intersections of teacher beliefs and everyday classroom interaction (and, thus, student opportunities for learning), and 3) explores theoretical and practical aspects of social responsibility in education.  Depending on the research question at hand, she uses ethnographic (i.e., interview, observation, and artifact collection) as well as quantitative (i.e., statistical measurement and analysis) research methods to explore learning within elementary settings.  Dr. Goldberg’s background and current interests also focuses on the roles of research in Education communities.
