Fairfield's 6 Core Pathways
In the Catholic and Jesuit tradition, human reflection is at the root of a liberal arts education. Through The Core, you will explore knowledge about the whole of the world, and reflect on how the past connects to the present and, ultimately, your future.
Creative and Aesthetic Engagement
Creativity is transformative - the taking of a physical object or intellectual idea and turning it into something new. Through The Core, you will be exposed to and inspired by the works of others, and encouraged to consider your role in the creative process so you can create your own visions.
Global citizenship is about recognizing and respecting the identities and dignities of all people as well as the planet we all live on. Through The Core, you'll have opportunities to reflect on our privileges, engage with others and the world to which we all belong, and work towards social justice by transforming society for the greater good.
Eloquence - the chief aim of the liberal arts and a central focus of the Jesuit curriculum - is traditionally developed through extensive rhetorical training. Through the Core, you will exercise the habits of mind that prompt rhetorical action and reflection, developing your capacity to use language for specific academic, intellectual, and social purposes.
Using, interpreting, and presenting quantitative data will lead to competency as a professional and a citizen of society. Through The Core, you'll explore the power and limitations of quantitative reasoning and apply basic skills to support arguments and solve real-life quandaries.
The final pathway of The Core emphasizes the importance of scientific knowledge and analysis in daily life, while recognizing the responsibility science has in creating a better world for some while compromising the world for others. Through Fairfield's Core curriculum, you'll learn to question, design experiments, and collect, evaluate, and connect real data to theory to find new solutions to real-world problems.
