Senior Vice President for Administration and Chief of Staff, Mark C. Reed
Mark C. Reed is Senior Vice President for Administration and Chief of Staff at Fairfield University. In this capacity, he serves as the principal advisor to the President of the University, coordinates the operations of the President's Office, participates in all aspects of the University's planning and management, and provides leadership to and oversees the University's Legal Affairs, Trustee Affairs, Department of Facilities Management, Department of Athletics, Office of Human Resources, Department of Public Safety, Dean of Enrollment, Institutional Research, and Auxiliary Services. He serves on multiple University-wide committees and chairs the University's crisis management team. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Reed is an adjunct professor in the Mathematics Department.
Dr. Reed came to Fairfield in 2000, served briefly in both the business school dean' office and the Office of Annual Giving, and was appointed Dean of Students in 2001. In June 2004, he assumed oversight of the Department of Athletics and was named Associate Vice President/Dean of Students. He was appointed Vice President for Student Affairs in 2005, responsible for all aspects of student life. He took on additional duties overseeing the Department of Facilities Management and was named Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs in 2007, and assumed his current role in 2011.
Dr. Reed is a past President of the Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators (JASPA), a conference within the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU). He serves on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Compliance and Enforcement Committee and chairs the MAAC's Strategic Planning Committee on behalf of the Council of Presidents. He has served on visiting teams for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Prior to his career in higher education, Reed was a teacher, coach, and part-time administrator at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA, and St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, PA. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Fairfield University, a master's degree in educational administration (secondary) from Boston College, an MBA from Fairfield, and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed both the ACJU's Ignatian Colleagues Program and Leadership Seminar, the Institute for Administrators in Catholic Higher Education at Boston College, and the Management Development Program at Harvard University's Institutes for Higher Education.
