About the Student Health Center

Health care is provided by our physician and a staff of nurse practitioners and registered nurses. A nurse practitioner is an "Advanced Practice Registered Nurse" licensed to manage common illnesses and prescribe medications.

To receive medical treatment at the Student Health Center you must be a full-time undergraduate student and have the required admission Medical Report on file. There is no visit fee for eligible students.

The Student Health Center is available to assist graduate and part-time students with immunizations required for matriculation and referrals to community Health Care Providers, but is not able to provide ongoing clinical care.

You have the right to:

  • Be assured of the confidential treatment of disclosures and release of records consistent with Student Health Center policies and State and Federal Laws.
  • Be given the opportunity to participate in decisions involving your health care
  • Present a concern or complaint with the knowledge that your care or service will not be jeopardized
  • Have optimal quality of care provided within the resources and scope of the Student Health Center practice

You have the responsibility to:

  • Seek medical attention promptly, and subsequently, to report any significant changes in symptoms or failure to improve
  • Provide the Student Health Center with complete and accurate information about your health, medication both prescribed and over the counter, dietary supplements, and any allergies or sensitivities
  • Respect Student Health Center health care providers and staff, other patients and clinic policies and operating hours
  • Keep appointments or cancel in advance
  • Ask about anything you do not understand
  • Follow the treatment plan prescribed by your Student Health Center health care provider and participate in your care
  • Inform your Student Health Center health care provider about any living will, medical power of attorney or any other medical directive that could affect your care (For more information go to: http://www.ct.gov/agingservices/lib/agingservices/pdf/advancedirectivesenglish.pdf )
  • Provide useful feedback about services and policies (consider utilizing our Suggestion Box in the reception area or out on-line survey on our webpage: fairfield.edu/healthcenter )

All medical visits to the Student Health Center are confidential. Health records are completely separate from other University records. Access is limited to authorized Student Health Center personnel only. The Student Health Center will discuss/release personal medical information only with the student's written permission. Students may obtain a consent form for the release of medical information at the Student Health Center. This release is valid for the specified visit/illness only. This is a legal requirement.

If a student is referred to a hospital Emergency Department by the Student Health Center staff, the student is encouraged to notify parents/guardians.  In the event of a life-threatening illness, the student's parents/guardians will be contacted directly by the Student Health Center clinical staff.

EASTER BREAK

The Student Health Center will close at 4 p.m. on Holy Thursday, March 28, and will remained closed until Easter Monday, April 1.  

Hours on Monday, April 1, will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Important Resources

Health Insurance

All full-time undergraduate, graduate, and second degree nursing students will be enrolled in, and billed for, the University-sponsored health insurance policy, unless the student is already enrolled in a comparable health insurance plan. If the student already has health insurance, a waiver must be completed in order for a credit to appear on the student’s bill.

Travel Health

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention offers a web site dedicated to providing comprehensive and current information related to travel and health. Information regarding vaccines, travel medicine, and general advice is posted on this web site. Travelers may also search for destination specific information and review posted Travel Health Notices.

Immunization Requirements

The State of Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-155 and Fairfield University require each full-time or matriculating student to provide proof of immunity or screening against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, meningitis and tuberculosis. Immunization forms and fact sheets can be found in this section.

New Students
